The modern organization is rarely short of dashboards. It is often short of clarity about who acts when a metric changes. Reporting can be accurate and still fail to influence the next decision. The missing element is an operating agreement between evidence, accountability and action.
Start with a decision rather than a visualization. Define the decision owner, the available choices, the cost of delay, the reversibility of a mistake and the evidence that could change the answer. Then design the interface around the work to be done.
AI can help surface options and uncertainty, but it should not blur responsibility. A useful intelligence system lets people understand why a recommendation exists, contest it and learn from the outcome. A better dashboard is not the final goal. A better decision is.
